Dumang DK6 Tenting Case
thingiverse
This is a custom case design for the Dumang DK6 (2019) full-size keyboard. It encases the base of the keyboard with a slim case that features four screw holes in each corner to use M3 screws as legs and elevate the keyboard. The tenting effect makes it challenging to use unless you hover your hands, so I also created a matching wrist rest case using memory foam. The keyboard case and wrist rest case are secured together by screwing them into the wrist rest adjustment bracket. Holes for square nuts are drilled in the bottom of the keyboard case and the floor of the wrist rest case for tightening screws against. The adjustable bracket allows for vertical and forward-backward adjustment of the wrist rest relative to the keyboard case. There are two variations of the screws and keyboard case depending on your usage needs. For screws, you can use either two nuts per leg (one above and one below the printed hole) or M3 threaded inserts. I designed the screw holes tightly so that M3 screws alone are usable, but be aware that adjusting the screws multiple times will loosen the holes, causing the legs to shift unless nuts are placed on both the top and bottom of the case. For this reason, I recommend using M3 threaded inserts, which can be pushed in using a soldering iron. For the keyboard case, you have two options: use it separately from the wrist rest or attach the wrist rest to the case via the bracket. There are eight holes for square nuts that allow five different positions of the wrist rest (left, middle, right) along the length of the case to suit various key placements. Use any two adjacent holes together with an empty hole in between. Depending on your printer's tolerance, you may need a soldering iron to help sink the square nuts into their holes. Required parts depend on whether you're using M3 screws or threaded inserts. Universal parts required include: | Part | Screws | Fasteners | | --- | --- | --- | | Keyboard case | 4x M3 screws | See fasteners table | | Wrist rest adjustment bracket | 4x M3x5 screws | 4x M3 square nuts | | Wrist rest case | 4x M3 screws | See fasteners table | The length of the M3 screws for the keyboard and wrist rest cases depends on the angle you want to achieve. You'll need two longer screws in the middle and two shorter screws for the outside corners. I use 120 mm long screws in the middle to achieve a 25-30 degree angle. If you don't have long enough screws, you can lengthen them by attaching screw couplers. For the wrist rest adjustment bracket, if your screws are longer than 5 mm, you can use washers to reduce their effective length (e.g., two washers for M3x6 screws will work like M3x5 screws). Fasteners required for the cases are: | Part | M3 screws version | Threaded inserts version | | --- | --- | --- | | Keyboard case | 8x M3 hex nuts | 4x M3 threaded inserts | | Wrist rest case | 8x M3 hex nuts | 4x M3 threaded inserts | If using hex nuts, place one above and one below each corner screw hole. For threaded inserts, I used ones with a 5.3 mm diameter and 6 mm length. Optional parts include: * 4x acorn nuts per keyboard or wrist rest case: Acorn nuts serve as stable feet * Plastidip: Plastidipping the acorn nuts gives them good grip on slippery surfaces. Alternatively, a deskmat or cutting mat works well too.
