Duel function LED Ornament Stand
thingiverse
This thing is an LED light stand that can switch between 4 color-changing LEDs or 2 super bright white LEDs. It consists of three parts: the base, which takes 3 AA batteries and has associated clips as well as two switches and a circuit board with LEDs; the lid, which is printed separately and clips into place; and the "window," which fits inside the top and needs to be printed in clear or very transparent filament. Wiring, assembly details, and materials list are available on my blog here: https://somei3deas.wordpress.com/2017/02/02/dual-function-led-ornament-stands/. I've included some instructions below, but no great detail is provided. I was unable to find a miniature ON-OFF-ON switch so ended up using two ON-ON switches; if you can find one, it will simplify the wiring. I have included the Open Scad file so that the design can be adapted and/or modified to suit your needs. Print Settings: Printer: Scratch-built CoreXY Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Any Infill: 20% Notes: Setting aren't really important; whatever works gives a good surface finish. Post-Printing: Wiring I will assemble details and wiring instructions on my blog and post a link here if I can. This thing takes 3 AA batteries, so you need battery clips. I used Keystone 228 for the +ve and Keystone 209 for the negative. You'll need 2 miniature ON-ON slide switches; I used PIC model number SS-22F25-g. And you'll need to make up the LED board which has 4 5mm slow color-changing LEDs and 2 5mm super bright white LEDs. All the color-changing LEDs are wired in parallel with individual current limiting resistors and share the same positive supply, which goes to one side of one switch. The white LEDs are wired similarly, and their common positive supply goes to the other side of that switch. The batteries are wired in series to give 4.5 volts; the positive terminal goes to the center of one switch, which acts as an on-off switch. One side of this switch goes to the center of the other switch, which acts to swap between the white LEDs and the color-changing LEDs. The strip board with LEDs should be 25mm x 25mm to fit in the recess in the printed part; a small dab of glue may be required to hold it in place. The insert "window" will also need a small dab of glue.
