Ducted heating vent repairs
thingiverse
One of my ducted heating vents wasn't closing properly and I discovered that the gear responsible for this action was broken and missing. A crucial lug from the shaft that holds the baffle was also nowhere to be found. I designed a new lug for the baffle shaft and created a cog gear that fits seamlessly in place of the old gear, requiring an m6 bolt to connect the knob and the gear. To make room for the m6 bolt, I had to file a small amount from the part that locates on the vent. Once in place, you use the knob part on the head of the bolt as the push button centre piece where the old gear was located, and the key makes it all work smoothly and easily. My ducted heating vents now work better than ever before since I've had the key. You can print all parts as displayed in the part list with no supports required. I'd love to see if anyone has successfully made use of this design. *Update: V7 part added, modified for a better gear fit. The top was blunted to ensure a smoother mesh. *Update: I altered the knob to make it easier to turn by adding a key that you can use to open and close. Note: When assembling, be sure to use locktite permanent to secure the nut, as it will otherwise spin freely. It's also recommended to carefully glue the nut to the cog using a small amount of glue, such as Locktite super glue gel control, to keep it localized.
