Ducted cooling fan

Ducted cooling fan

thingiverse

This ducted fan mount, compatible with Makerbot/Cupcake and MK5 Extruder, prevents small objects from melting by efficiently cooling them. It attaches to the extruder mount using clips and employs an old fan from a graphics card or similar device. The airflow is directed downwards and towards the nozzle at 45 degrees, ensuring optimal cooling for the top layer of the printing object without overheating the platform heater. A 200 Ohm potentiometer controls the fan's airflow. Printing without support, this duct design incorporates a central support for better bridging in the top layers; outlet support pillars can be removed post-printing if desired. The fan is secured with superglue for stability.
