Duck Head Bookend: Paper Weight, Dime Banks

Duck Head Bookend: Paper Weight, Dime Banks

Two duck-shaped bookends made from brass were purchased at a local thrift store. Each measures about 22 cm in height and weighs 1.1 kg. One bookend is labeled "Made in Korea," without specifying whether it was produced in North or South Korea. To create a more manageable model, a reduced-scale version of the duck-shaped bookends was designed using 123D-Catch software. Unfortunately, printing the full-sized design would require a much larger printer than mine. To address this issue, I hollowed out the model and added a screw closure to transform it into a functional paperweight. Additionally, I created a slot in the paperweight to serve as a "dime bank." For improved visibility, I also designed a wire frame version of the dime bank. The accompanying OpenSCAD code includes a forward with explanatory notes. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer Model: MakerBot Replicator (5th Generation) Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.3 mm Notes: The bookend files require support for the duck's beak to ensure proper printing. When creating the wire frame model, it is crucial to angle the support near 90 degrees to prevent internal support generation within the bank. The tall support for the beak also enhances its stability. Note about Closure Size: Due to variations in printer software, the size of the screw closure can differ slightly. Three closures are provided: 23 mm, 23.25 mm, and 23.5 mm. Please select the one that best fits your specific printer settings.
