This bone was unearthed archaeologically from the south yard at James Madison's historic estate, Montpelier. It was meticulously scanned in 3D using a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner. The object was scanned to enrich the digital resources of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities' Encyclopedia Virginia, focusing on slavery in Virginia. This scanning initiative is made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
