DUCA is a bespoke project specifically designed by Nicola Gallizia for ME Milan Il Duca, a luxury hotel in Milan that sets the standard for high-end accommodations. This lamp was created through Oluce's Bespoke tailoring service, offering custom solutions to both large and small suppliers: lamps tailored to specific projects or modular variants of existing designs, as well as production from the catalogue. Initially envisioned by Gallizia as a table version to illuminate sleeping areas in suites, a wall-mounted adaptation was also developed to light up corridors on different floors. The initial idea for DUCA was a light source that would take over where traditional bedside lamps left off, reinventing its shape and combining it with very soft, indirect lighting that's almost impossible to detect but accurately illuminates the table and bedside area. Inspired by theatrical lighting, which conceals the origin of the light source from view, Nicola Gallizia focuses on structural subtraction to emphasize the lighting effect. He entrusts the light with the task of revealing itself, a relativism that becomes a distinctive trait in the wall-mounted DUCA version: the perception of the lamp changes dramatically within the space depending on where the observer is located. Like during a lunar eclipse, the light source appears, disappears, and then reappears, engaging the eye in an unexpected dynamic game. Dimensions: 30 x 33 x 38 cm.
