Dual Yanagi Case

Dual Yanagi Case

thingiverse

A dual case for Yanagi kitchen knives is made up of two identical parts that house both blades together as a single unit. The owner found these knives at a thrift store without a case, so they decided to create their own custom cases to keep the brothers safe and organized. A thorough cleaning was necessary before use due to old wooden handles with black stuff underneath. To add a comfortable grip, a handle can be attached by printing it along with Case A & B. However, this would prevent both knives from fitting inside the case anymore. If you only have one Yanagi knife, this is the perfect solution. The original design left off the handles to accommodate both blades. To shape the outer case, a thermoforming process was used by inserting the second knife as far as possible and then pouring boiling water over it while wiggling it in until a tight fit was achieved. When attempting this step, be cautious not to let the blade slip out of place, and make sure the cases are super glued very well and dried fully before proceeding. Alternatively, one could mirror part A with software to avoid needing part C altogether.
