Dual Threaded Bolt

Dual Threaded Bolt

thingiverse

A unique bolt/nut experiment that has piqued my curiosity for a long time finally comes to life with my trusty 3D printer at hand! This innovative bolt features both left-hand and right-hand threads on the same bolt, not divided down the middle but instead running continuously along its entire length. I've paired this fascinating bolt with two standard nuts, one featuring a right-handed thread and the other a left-handed thread, both designed to work seamlessly in opposition with this clever bolt. The pièce de résistance of this experiment is the "magic" nut that shares a similar dual-thread design with the bolt. This remarkable nut can travel freely along the length of the bolt, rotating either clockwise or counterclockwise depending on the user's preference. With its ingenious ability to adapt to the desired direction of rotation, this magic nut adds an extra layer of excitement to the entire experiment. To gain a deeper understanding of how this incredible concept works, I highly recommend viewing the accompanying video, which offers a comprehensive visual explanation of the principles at play. In my case, all the necessary parts were printed using my reliable Wanhao Duplicator 4x printer with specific settings for optimal results. Here's a breakdown of the key parameters employed: * Object infill: 40% * Layer height: 0.15mm * Number of shells: 2 * Feedrate: 30 mm/s * Travel rate: 40mm/s * PLA temperature: 220 degrees Celsius * Board temperature: 55 degrees Celsius * Filament diameter: 1.9mm (to minimize extruded material) * Nozzle diameter: 0.4mm To achieve the perfect fit, Nut_4Gap might require scaling in one or both dimensions; if so, print Nut 5 instead, which I've designed by increasing the original nut's size by 5% in the X and Y axes. The dual nut features a similar increase of 4%. Feel free to scale your own nuts in the X and Y directions for an optimal fit. If you're interested in printing all the components at once, simply use the Full_Set setting, which will save time and effort in bringing this intriguing experiment to life.
