Dual Purpose Laptop Stand and Headphone Wrap

<p>I was trying to find a good solution to keep the laptops for my kids cool while we were playing Minecraft. Elevating the laptops seemed to do the trick, but that usually mean we were using books, rolls, of tape, or really anything at hand to prop them up.</p> <p>Being a Dad with a 3D printer I immediately though I could solve the problem by designing up a hugely complicated print, that was too big to print, and then abandoning the idea entirely in favor of finding something others had done.</p> <p>I stumbled upon some designs where the stands simply slipped on either side of the laptop and then could nest together when not in use. I found these to be really cool, but didn't really work as the laptops kept sliding off of them when in use.</p> <p>So I started toying around with those thoughts and came up with this item here. It satisfied two key needs, 1) that they are long enough to confidently remain in place, and 2) that there were two points of contact on the top and bottom surfaces, and finally 3) they could nest together for storage. What I got was a bonus 4) in that with the added length I could now wrap some earbuds around them so they served two purposes, and both are actually somewhat useful. What you got right there is a 4 for 2 deal.</p> <p>This will fit a laptop of about 13.6mm (.54") thickness.</p> <h3>Print instructions</h3><p>I printed these both with Black Prusament PETG and White Hatchbox PETG. The Prusament worked great and I could print it without brim or supports. However, the Hatchbox needed a brim to remain attached for the entire print.</p> <p>Once printed you will need to carefully ream out the hole using a drill bit or round file. I made both the hole and the peg 3mm intentionally so the friction fit can be adjusted. You want these to fit together snugly, but not necessarily snap together otherwise you'll have to pry them apart.</p> <p>Also, even though the print is setup with two parts, they're both exactly the same. So you can print just one if you only need one.</p>
