Dual plane 12 leaf 85mm iris
thingiverse
Update June 9, 2019: Most files have been revised for a better end result. Key details are listed below. This is an iris with 12 leaves and a dual plane design, featuring a maximum aperture of 85mm. A lightweight 15mm support has also been included for those who wish to attach it to a modern camera, as well as hardware for an 80mm clamp-on support. Inspired by the iris-in and iris-out effects used in silent films, which were achieved using a similar process and invented by Billy Bitzer with an old large format iris placed in front of the taking lens. Changes: The original actuator was incorrect, and its diameter was too small. Fillets have been added to the lid and base to prevent snagging during travel. The notch on the base for the actuator has been made deeper for smoother movement throughout its range. An 80mm clip-on support can be mounted on the iris alone or sandwiched between the iris and the 15mm support. All .stl files have been aligned to the build plate. Required components: Three 1/4-20 nuts Three 1" 1/4-20 bolts One 1" 1-4-20 bolt with a knob or other easy tightening mechanism, possibly socket head; no knob was provided as one was already available. Two 1.5" 1/4-20 bolts One small 6-32 pattern nut One 1.25" 6-32 socket head, or longer, adjusting the height of the tie-down spacer accordingly.
