Dual Mendel X Carriage a la Prusa
thingiverse
This revised Prusa Mendel X Carriage, compatible with standard Mendel X axes, features PLA bushings instead of conventional bearings. The bushings are easily clipped into place and include pins that fit into generous spaces within the carriage for optional bonding with glue, Blu-tak, gum, or earwax. Note that this design is not intended to affix to a Prusa Mendel but rather securely clamp onto the drive belt using the included clamps. Compatible extruder options include two pinch extruders (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8830) or a Wade extruder. For those rebuilding under OpenSCAD, refer to http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2192. To assemble, print the parts, fit X belt clamps with 20mm x M4 screws, washers, and nuts; clip bushings into place on the carriage body; insert four M4 nuts for extruder attachment. Warming the bushings with a hairdryer or blowtorch can aid installation while avoiding fractures. Slide onto X axis rails, allow to cool, and clamp the X drive belt in place. Extruder attachment follows similarly. Be cautious when removing the carriage from rails, as warming the bushings may be necessary for tight fits. Optimal performance occurs with PLA (http://diamondage.co.nz/pla.html) due to reduced bushing friction.
