Dual magnifier stand
thingiverse
This magnifier stand uses lenses from the Harbor Freight Tools dot com item #37708. They are $2 each. These 2" x 4" magnifiers are heavy thick glass over 1/2 inch thick in the center and I've always appreciated the wide clear view. They are advertised as 4X power. This magnifier stacks two together and the result might be (2x4=) 8X or is it (4x4=) 16X Optics is not my forte. Lens spacing and lens-to-object distances are as good as I could estimate them. Field of view and depth and flatness of field are excellent considering the high magnification and low price imo. I tried to provide as much working room as possible beneath this frame. More is better. The frame is balanced at the pivots and can be adjusted to any position. There is enough friction at the zero-clearance hinge joint that it won't change position by itself. Parts are flexible and can be assembled with little danger of breaking something but be careful. If necessary file scrape or sand rough spots on the pivot. Don't force the parts together. The base was printed angled as shown because I was pretty sure this geometry would lift and warp if printed upright. Base took near 100 minutes 43g ABS. Frame took about 2 hours and used 60g Afinia defaults with minimum fill. Metric version provided.
