The standard 1 inch junction box just wasn't up to par when it came to accommodating the bulkier smart switches hitting the market today. With all the various wire nuts on hand, the switches simply wouldn't fit inside. That's why I created my own custom spacer. Depending on your specific installation needs, you may prefer one with or without added support. I put my design to the test using two different brands of dual face plates from Home Depot, including a Leviton model, and was thrilled to find they were a perfect match!
