Dual HDD caddy drive stabilizer
thingiverse
This is a straightforward bracket to keep two hard drives steady when installed in a dual USB docking station. When secured together, the two drives form a compact unit with no movement whatsoever. My docking unit is branded 'Inateck', but I've noticed many similar ones for sale that likely use the same PCB and therefore the same SATA connector spacing, so this device will probably fit those as well. Print out 2 stabilizers and attach using standard HDD screws. My setup involves a low-cost software RAID1 NAS for workstation backup and media storage, connected to an Intel NUC for handling music and video streaming. I'm getting network read and write speeds up to 80MB/s with this configuration. The downside is slow startup from power-save mode (around 10 seconds) but it's immediate once active. Setting up mirroring using Windows Storage Spaces is easy, but it only works with Windows 8 or 10 as Win7 doesn't support RAID on USB drives.
