dual extruder with magnetic actuator
thingiverse
This is a low-cost alternative to discarding single extrusion and reusing the single extruder motor for dual extrusion. This model uses basic components such as rollers and magnetic actuators with solenoids to switch between filaments. A single pull-up signal from the microcontroller will activate the magnetic actuator through a power MOSFET, requiring G-code modifications. The motor assembly moves back and forth on roller guides, switching filaments in the process. This setup is ideal for horizontal X carriages. Work has just begun on this project, with an actual X carriage design to be released soon. A dual extruder main board is not required, only a power MOSFET circuit for heaters and actuators, along with firmware tweaks.
