Dual Extruder Simple Metal Printrbot
thingiverse
I'm excited to present my Dual Extruder mod for my PrintrBot Simple Metal! To get started, you'll need the following parts: Extrudrboard - Around £25 on Ebay 100k resistor - A small cost to avoid the Mintemp error from the Extrudrboard 14pin Ribbon cable - Just use a spare one or make your own like I did with an old hard disk Now let's talk about the hardware: Stepper Motor - £10, I recommend getting two "Half Height NEMA 17" motors from Lulzbot Hotend - £65 E3D v6 is my choice, but you can try my adapters to fit an Alu extruder if you go for this or the Lite version Aluminium Extruder - £35 original from PrintrBot, or print your own using a 3D printer Lastly, grab some M3 screws and bolts to secure the extruder plate. If you opt for the E3D v6, note that it's shorter than the Ubis. While you can still install it without an adapter, you may need to raise the bed. The E3D v6 comes with the same thermistors as the Printrbot, so you won't have to mess with your firmware settings. As for my motor, I'm using a Lulzbot half-size extruder and haven't encountered any issues with different filament types - even if it's not as powerful as the Kysan motor.
