Dual Drive Extruder (with 2 Nema 17 steppers) BETA

thingiverse

This Dual Drive Extruder is engineered to deliver the fastest printing performance imaginable. Designed to seamlessly integrate with two Nema 17 stepper motors without any additional gearing, this setup maximizes pushing power and speed. This project is still in development, as I have not yet included mounting brackets or finalized the design. If you appreciate this idea but encounter an issue that prevents it from working for you, please send me a message and I will attempt to incorporate your suggestion into a future update. As a side note, I built this using only parts readily available in my workshop, so the images may not accurately depict the correct size or number of screws, filament drive gears, or PTFE tube. I assembled it and took pictures so you could see how it goes together. Keep in mind that this project will evolve over time, and I will update it as soon as possible. Post-Printing Instructions: Parts Required: • 8 x 3mm x 10mm screws • 8 x 3mm x 30mm screws (longer screws may be substituted) • 4-8 springs that fit snugly around a 3mm screw • Several 3mm washers • 8 x 3mm Nyloc nuts, wingnuts or regular nuts (a mix is acceptable) • 2 NEMA 17 stepper motors • 2 Threaded Bowden couplings (one will suffice) • Filament Drive Gears (hobbed gears are preferred but may be harder to align) • Wire and wire nuts Printed Parts: DuelDriveExtruder1 DuelDriveExtruder2 Both parts must be printed to complete the project. Wiring Instructions: Use wire nuts to connect wires to plugs for two stepper motors, ensuring that one motor's wiring is reversed. This reversal is crucial, as both stepper motors must spin in opposite directions. Adjust your printer board's potentiometer to increase power output and effectively drive both stepper motors.
