DStretch Version, Catacombs of San Gennaro Lower Level Entry\nIn around 200 A.D., the main entrance to the lower catacomb level was a freestanding pagan hypogeum. Original paintings displayed a multicolored frame system that divided the surface into geometric patterns featuring vessels, flowers, birds, four-legged animals, and hippocamps. In the 8th century, the area became an episcopal residence; preserved are a baptismal font and a Christ baptism fresco. From the Middle Ages are the decorations of two niches at the back wall (mosaics and a painting of Christ with five female saints) and a chamber, the "confessio", painted multiple times with depictions of San Gennaro and his six co-martyrs.\nThe descriptions were given by Senior Professor Dr. Dieter Korol, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster
