Drywall Target
thingiverse
This text revolves around a DIY solution for locating electrical boxes behind sheetrock. The magnetic target system fits inside the electrical box and is aligned via a magnetic face plate that can be seen through the sheet rock. Its open-source OpenSCAD file allows users to adapt it to different electrical boxes and magnets, with default parameters set for a typical Ace electrical box and 18mm super magnets. Two magnets are sufficient for most tasks, with alternating polarity ensuring only one orientation. Multiple targets can be printed for multiple electrical boxes. To use the target system, wire the electrical box, insert the target flush to its surface, install sheetrock, locate the face plate position and mark, cut, and clear the opening accordingly.
