This headstone was first documented by Gary Dempsey during a project with artist Ruth Le Gear (Water Senses) that delved into the legend of the Dobhar Chu in Conwall Graveyard, County Leitrim, and its connections to Glenade Lough. The stone may be part of a pair that inspired the story of a water monster who murdered a woman by the shores of the lough. Her husband chased the beast on horseback before his horse was killed and he slew the water monster. A remarkable local folk legend from Leitrim and Donegal. Conwall graveyard is part of an old church site between Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, and Bundoran, County Donegal, and it is well worth a visit to see these two stones.
