Drum Roll….

Make music with your printer! After my previous design, the woodpecker on the tree trunk, where a small amount of sound was added to the movement, I thought "let's make some real noise!"

My first idea was a kind of drum and soon the current idea arose, a kind of variation on the Den-den Daiko. Initially I wanted to place it on a stiff spring just like a normal Bobble figure, but after testing it turned out that placing an extra spring at the base negated the spring action of the drum beads. That's why I added a rigid spacer between the base and the model. 3 lengths have been added. The whole still works like a Bobble, only the spring action has been moved to the top. By the way, the base is the "Base 10x3 Magnet" from 3D Printy.

The spings used are the same as from my project "Bobble to the next level!" This is because the spring action needs to be very smooth and this can only be achieved with long thin springs. I myself have mounted 3 different lengths (10/11/12 coils) because this makes the timing of the Drum Roll more random. Placement requires some patience, use tweezers to place the springs.

The sound is actually surprisingly loud, better than I imagened before actualy printing..

All parts can be printed without support! I printed everything with 0.4 nozzle and 0.2 layer height. Make sure your printer is properly calibrated! The drumhead (or drumskin) is printed in place as the first 2 layers (tip: use white filament for the 1st 2 layers).

Everything is mounted with press fitting so that you can easily replace the springs and drum beads (if necessary).

Finally I added a handle as a replacement for the base. This allows you to use the drum separately, the children will love it!

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/oqikMqgWxh4"></oembed>
