This syenite sample originates from the Mount Dromedary Complex located on the southern coast of New South Wales, Australia. The complex dates back to the Cretaceous period, approximately 100 million years ago, and is primarily composed of potassic intermediate plutonic rocks including monzonites, syenites, and silica-undersaturated varieties. Associated with these intrusive rocks are extrusive ones, and the area has also been a site for gold mining in the past. Mount Dromedary was named by James Cook in 1770 due to its resemblance from offshore to the hump of a camel. The mountain and surrounding national park have now come to be known as Gulaga and hold significant cultural importance among Aboriginal communities.
