Droid X camera mount

Droid X camera mount

I created this quick and easy mount for my Motorola Droid X. I have several of these old phones, which I use as IP cameras around my shop and property to keep an eye on things remotely. This particular one is always propped up somewhere to monitor my 3D printer's progress over the network. I recently made a more permanent mount for a Pentax camera to capture timelapse video of a print: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2288241, and since I use this Droid X so frequently, I thought it was time to create a custom mount for it. The initial design positions the camera slightly off-center, but I'm including it in case someone prefers that layout. I've just uploaded another iteration of the design, version 3. It should print without issues, and I made one change: adding a gusseted "ear" to the bottom of the mount to shift the camera's position on my printer mount. This way, I can easily turn the phone around while keeping it plugged in if I leave it running for an extended period. If this design doesn't work as planned, I'll update it again soon. The threaded holes printed fine, but I ran a 1/4"-20 tap through them to clean them up. The screws also printed okay, although I had to use a thread file on them to get rid of any excess material. I used PLA for the print and found that it shrunk enough to make the fit very tight – you might want to scale the design up a few percent in your slicer if you're using PLA.
