This project has been superseded by newer models, but it was a great learning experience. My first foray into 3D design began with a full-size BB8 build, which led me to tackle the iconic R2D2. Here's a work-in-progress update on my full-size Dome model. The lower and upper rings feature alignment holes that allow 1.75mm filament to be used in the edge-to-edge gaps. Top pie pieces have removable supports for easy assembly. All designs are optimized for ABS to minimize shrinkage and warping. I've added a board bracket (glued inside the dome) that fits an Arduino, an Adafruit 16-channel servo controller, and a 12V-5V DC converter (commonly used in cars) since I'm using an 11.1V LiPo battery. Check out my completed Dome video here: https://youtu.be/46cj6XR9Y64. I've enabled tips to see how it works, and if you'd like to support me, feel free to send a tiny amount! Not even sure if it's working, as my screen is currently unresponsive :-). Here's a link to MightyJabba's superb build video: https://youtu.be/3WcUO5BmH0w. For reference, check out Trevor Fuller's brilliant build video for the Revised Radar Eye (version 2): https://youtu.be/KQ6VAYtlbDg. I've finished revising all the models, and you can find version 2 designs shared freely and openly at https://www.patreon.com/mrbaddeley. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2X Rafts: No Supports: Yes Notes: Generally, most pieces are designed to use minimal or no support. Recommend printing with at least three layers (or four) for a smooth finish after sanding.
