In a steam locomotive, the driving wheel is powered by pistons or a turbine in steam turbine models. On conventional non-articulated locomotives, these wheels are connected via side rods, with one pair directly driven by the main rod linked to the piston's end; power transmission occurs through the remaining side rods.
