Drive Bay Adapter V4 (3.5" to 2x2.5")
thingiverse
This bay adapter converter transforms a standard 3.5-inch drive bay into two spacious 2.5-inch drive bays. The lower mounting bracket supports a 7mm drive, with most solid-state drives conforming to this size. Meanwhile, the upper mounting bracket can accommodate up to a 15mm drive, making it compatible with the tallest available 2.5-inch drive on the market. This configuration enables a total storage capacity of one terabyte in solid-state form and three terabytes in hard disk drive format for everyday consumers. In contrast, utilizing high-end enterprise-class storage solutions boosts the capacity to 3.84 terabytes in solid-state form and six terabytes in hard disk drive format. The lower mounting bracket boasts both side and bottom screw holes designed specifically for 2.5-inch drives, while the upper mounting bracket offers side screw holes for easy installation. The adapter itself features every available mounting screw hole from standard 3.5-inch configurations, including both sides and bottom, ensuring a secure fit in any case. Produced using only 35 grams of PLA at 100% infill, this print required an impressive eight hours and forty minutes to complete under optimal settings (60mm/sec, slower on adhesion layers and outer walls, 0.1mm layer height). Post-processing may be necessary to remove stringing and bore out screw holes if abnormalities arise. For a seamless drive installation experience, we recommend installing the bottom drive first and tightening screws in a cross pattern to ensure direct contact with the lower risers. Subsequently, install the top drive using the same technique, ensuring all screws are securely tightened to prevent undue stress on hard drives caused by vibrations. The same approach is recommended for installing the adapter into your case.
