DRIOD BODY R2D2 Star Wars
thingiverse
Superseded by V2 design, this is a work in progress, with a fully printed R2D2 body heavily modified for scale and skins, based on the fabulous work of James Bruton, available to watch on YouTube. The build model I've created is not certified or interchangeable with official specifications, but is designed for complete 3D printing accuracy, using reference dimensions whenever possible. I'm in the process of printing all parts in ABS on a Makerbot, taking care to cut them to fit the Makerbot build plate perfectly. To address James Bruton's issue with excessive shoulder frame flex, I've included modified designs that eliminate this problem and feature a 15mm 36 degree hole for added support. In addition, I've created a head turn gear (driver) and head turn idler for each side of the droid, using 2 6mm bearings, a 6mm bolt, nut, and washer. These components are designed to hold the Lazy Susan ring in place securely. I've recently uploaded a video showcasing my assembled droid, featuring self-powered Bluetooth control over its movement, as well as dome rotation for my 3D printed Artoo! After fine-tuning the legs and tension, I'm thrilled with the results. Next on my agenda is the foot motors!
