Drill Press Vise Thread Cutting Die Holding Jig

Drill Press Vise Thread Cutting Die Holding Jig

thingiverse

I'm working on a project that demands precision threading of rods at a precise 90-degree angle to the mounting surface for optimal performance. Most tutorials focus on drilling press vise operations, but I needed guidance on using a drill press specifically for tapping rods. The drill press table, chuck, and vise provide stable reference planes for aligning parts accurately. This custom jig holds the die flat between the vise jaws, allowing you to use a rod in the chuck holes to secure the part being threaded. To thread successfully, you'll need to manually move the chuck forward and backward during operation to clear debris and avoid binding issues. I recommend inserting the die into the jig with the screw dimple facing the vise jaws, which helps prevent deforming the die when tightening the vise. Please note that this setup is intended for hand tapping only - do not attempt to run the drill press for this operation. If you're unsure about resisting the power button, unplug the drill press immediately. I disclaim any liability if you proceed recklessly with this project.
