Drill Press Power Switch Box
thingiverse
I have a Wen 12" Drill Press with variable speed that's convenient to use, but I've found it annoying that the speed gauge stays lit all the time even when the drill press is turned off unless I unplug the machine. To solve this problem, I built a switch box to cut power to the drill press without needing to unplug it every time. This effectively turns the added switch into a machine on/off switch while the original switch controls whether the spindle is running or not. Word of Caution: Be aware that this box interrupts the main power cord and adds a mains voltage switch, which can be hazardous if not done correctly. The construction process is relatively straightforward. You'll need 4 M3 x 10mm screws with matching nuts to secure the cable clamps on top and bottom and 4 M4 screws to attach the lid to the case after wiring. These 4 screws thread directly into the plastic base. Additionally, you'll require a hose clamp that fits your drill press for mounting; I used a 2.5" one. The switch I utilized is an Appliance Rocker Switch, Illuminated rated 16A @ 125V AC with a panel cutout of .55in x 1.125in. A STEP file is included for modification as needed.
