Drill Press Hacksaw Jig
thingiverse
Cutting 8mm rods with a drill press requires using a jig, which I have designed to hold the rod securely in place. A bearing is added between the bottom housing and the drill press plate hole ring to facilitate smooth movement; without it, screws and rugged springs would be needed. Future plans include adding files for cutting 6mm rods. To use this jig safely and effectively: 1) Put on safety gear and be patient - cutting an 8mm chrome rod takes about 5 minutes. 2) Place the rod into the jig. 3) Insert the rod into the drill press, tighten the chuck securely. 4) Attach the jig to the drill press plate. 5) Adjust the drill press plate height just below the cut line. 6) Insert the blade into position. 7) Affix a wooden block to the drill press plate to prevent the blade from flying out during operation. 8) Raise the drill press plate so that the blade is on the cut line. 9) Apply lubricant to reduce friction. 10) Pull the blade back and start the drill press. 11) Release the blade. 12) Lubricate every minute or so to maintain smooth cutting.
