Drill Press/Bench Drill

The drill press prototype was based on blueprints in "Engineering Drawing" by Thomas E. French and Charles J. Vierck. Measuring around 24 inches tall, the Quill Feed is intricately modeled and connected, with 14DP gears and a 20-degree pressure angle. The Counter-shaft rotates at 400 RPM, driving spindle speeds of 300 & 630 RPM. The drill press head was designed using line curves, then splined for added complexity; this may have been a test of the drafter's skills rather than a cost-effective approach.
