I've extensively researched various approaches to sharpening drill bits but wasn't impressed by any of them. I'm drawn to simple and practical designs that don't waste time or resources. This guide is one such design: a single-part guide for sharpening drill bits on a Dremel or similar rotary tool that uses an M19-2 thread. The guide includes three sizes: 90, 118, and 135 degrees. The majority of users will likely need the 118* adapter, which comes in two sizes to fit small and large diameter drills, as well as different diameters on cutting/grinding disks. This one-piece adapter prints without support and is threaded directly onto the Dremel (tested on my Dremel 285, 8000, and generic Alltrade tool with a 19mm thread size). It also accommodates mandrel upgrades. To address some common issues: If the guide doesn't fit, check your printer calibration: make sure x/y/z steps/mm are correct, and your slicer settings are right (filament factor or extrusion multiplier). Print a 20mm calibration cube and measure with precision calipers. Also check material settings; ABS and PETG often shrink when printing circles. Regarding the relief angle, yes, I'm aware of its flaw: the single angle doesn't accommodate the actual geometry and left/right issue involved in drill bits. While I wasn't expecting this design to be so popular among specialized users, I understand now that a re-design is necessary. To work around it, simply add the relief by hand; watch the video for reference (1:05-1:15). Since the cutting edge is more critical than the relief angle, this workaround should suffice. Feel free to tweak but keep in mind that commercial use requires permission. If interested, contact me separately.
