Eugène Dodeigne (1923–2015) lived and worked as a renowned French sculptor in Bondues, Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Born in Rouvreux near Liège, he mastered his craft from his father, a skilled stonecutter, who sent him to take classes in drawing and modeling at Tourcoing and Paris's prestigious École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. There, Dodeigne had a profound revelation in Marcel Gimond's studio, where he was deeply influenced by Constantin Brâncuși's abstract forms. In 1960, he embarked on the path of carved stone that led to an explosive figuration, highly expressive and lasting throughout his career. Dodeigne also drew inspiration from Giacometti's attention to detail and Germaine Richier's dramatic flair. When asked about his early works and influences, Dodeigne remained tight-lipped.
