UPDATE 20150503: Installed original pinion/gear assembly for completeness. UPDATE 20150412: Implemented new rack in two depths. The 11mm version is being used to optimize gear interaction with a good mate. Old rack removed to accommodate improvements. UPDATE 20150406: Altered the dremel bottom mount by approximately 1mm to achieve vertical alignment, and adjusted the rack by roughly 1mm for enhanced gear engagement. An improved rack design is pending print and testing phases. An innovative height adjustment clip has been integrated below the spring, providing increased height options in 10mm and 20mm variants. This DIY drill press was inspired by Mitchnajmitch's excellent model but required modifications to enhance functionality and minimize filament usage. Initial results are satisfactory, but additional tweaks and features are already being considered. The project was printed with PLA at a layer thickness of 0.3mm, using three perimeters on top and bottom, along with 25% honeycomb infill for all parts except the knob (16% honeycomb infill). Utilizing readily available 5/16 threaded rod facilitated construction, though an 8mm option can be employed as a substitute. The holes accommodating these rods are 7mm in diameter and can be easily tapped to secure them firmly. M3 bolts with pressed-in nuts form the main assembly fasteners. Required components include: M3 bolts and corresponding nuts in quantities: - 30mm x 4 - 25mm x 1 - 20mm x 8 - 16mm x 5 Additional essential components are springs with a 10mm inner diameter (x2), M3 screws for securing the base to a workboard or bench, and LM8UU bearings or their printed equivalent. Threading requirements encompass: - 15cm long piece of threaded rod - 1 pc 10cm long piece of threaded rod Regulary-sized nuts x 5 Lock nuts x 2 (optional) Or regular nuts x 6 along with a single lock nut Washers are also required, one being inserted as part of the handle elbow assembly. Finally, four pieces of 8mm smooth rod each 30cm in length round out the materials list.
