Dremel 4000 Wedge Mount w/Quick Release
thingiverse
This is a clamp mount for the Dremel 4000 with a quick-release feature. It's designed to clamp onto the top of a workbench or desk, and then hold a clamping ring with the Dremel tool. The mount model is positioned upside-down for printing without support. The interface between the mount and the clamp is a tapered wedge. This takes an instant to drop the Demel into, and it wedges tighter the more it's pressed down. Lifting the Dremel straight up easily unseats it, provided you haven't really hammered into the mount bracket. I made this because I've been previously using a sturdier mount that requires unscrewing parts every time I want to get the Dremel out. Since I often find myself needing to store the tool readily at hand, sand/polish items with a mounted unit, and hand-manipulate the Dremel for detail work all within the same session, I created this solution to answer all cases. The mount platform is simply thin and flat, and I'm able to hold it on with friction and clamps. Feel free to punch a few holes in the mount platform to screw down to your own desk for a sturdier fit if you need a permanent mount. The hex inset is designed to accommodate a specific kind of nut and bolt that I have lying about in large quantities for media work. We use a standard quarter-inch diameter bolt and nut with UNC-20 threads for all tripod and camera gear, and they fit nicely here. The round hole is a bit over a quarter inch in diameter, and the hex-shaped inset is 11mm across the flats, 12.5mm across the points. There are two mounting possibilities: 1) Insert a hex bolt in through the holes and trap the head in place with the inset. Fasten a corresponding nut or wing nut to the opposite side and tighten to secure the Dremel. 2) Insert a hex nut into the slot and screw a bolt into it from the opposite side. Tighten to secure the Dremel. The items shown in the pictures are linked below, including the bolt plus either one of the two nut options that would work. Wider wings would hit the clamp arm. A suggested remix of this design would be to edit the clamp piece to extrude any shape of arms onto the wedge to create a variety of simple tool-holders.
