A custom project underway involves creating a draw-bench to craft nickel silver tubes with tapered cross-sections, specifically for French Horn manufacturing. The tube's taper is achieved by rotating the lead screw, which translates into linear motion through a flanged nut and compresses a doughnut-shaped die over the tube. A tapered mandrel inside the tube acts as a mold for its interior shape. This unique machine design features a 0.5HP DC electric gear motor from Bodine Electrics as its sole outsourced component.
