Draped Woman at The Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
At the close of the 18th century, a figurative statue stood proudly in the grand room of Villa Borghese, Rome, paired with another statue of similar style (MR 68, also accessible on Scan the World). Both statues resided in the Apollo Gallery at The Louvre. The antique form is an Roman adaptation of the sculpture 'The Little Herculaneian,' a piece from the end of the 4th century BC attributed to Praxiteles. Modern modifications transformed the statue into a muse, as evidenced by the head and flute held in her left hand. This captivating piece is comprised of old fragments of statues skillfully reassembled.
