Draped female figure
myminifactory
This sculpture showcases an enigmatic draped female form that could very well be a nymph. The nearly transparent drapery has been so skillfully carved that it appears to leave her body almost bare. Initially, the sculpture may have been part of the ancient Temple of Asklepios in Greece. A glance at the back reveals it was not fully carved, implying it might originally have been placed within a niche. The RA boasts an impressive collection of plaster casts from antique sculptures, but this piece stands out as the only original work from antiquity in their entire Collection.
