This is the Dragonfly space plane from Robert L. Forward's novel Rocheworld. The Dragonfly is a glider-shaped plane with an air-tight hull that can fly both in atmosphere and in vacuum. It is equipped to perform Vertical Take-Off and Landing using two electric fans powered by a nuclear reactor. On Rocheworld, the Dragonfly would assist the first team of explorers in making contact with an alien species.
