Dragonfly

Summary Saw several dragonflies on this site but none that matched my expectations as I had to order mine quickly for a Mother's Day gift. The print turned out well despite numerous errors in the STL file, but it printed smoothly at 100% scale. This is a one-piece print with supports touching the base; the legs are fragile, I ran this print at 60mm/s and adjusted the speed to 15mm to slow down the printing process by 40-50%. As a result, I had to superglue a spring into place after it snapped off during the de-supporting process. Print Settings Printer: Duplicator i3 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 15% Notes: Print wings down! (legs up) Slow down the print speed after 15mm. How I Designed This For the body, I created a loft with two open profiles and five open loop guide curves, which gave me one-quarter of the model; then I mirrored it in x and y and offset it to create three more lofts that were merged. This resulted in numerous gaps throughout the model but was exactly how I envisioned the dragonfly's body, complete with spikes at the end. The wings were created using boss extrudes with extruded spline cuts and mirrored in x. The eyes are two separate revolves. The legs consist of 2.5mm circles perpendicular to the top and right planes, connected by 3D sketches. I used these for a physical print/model for the first time; once I adjusted the angles, they weren't too bad. Three legs were then mirrored in x.
