Dragonflite 95 hull reinforcement
thingiverse
I love my Dragonflite 95, but I've experienced three hull failures in the last two years due to cracks around the keel trunk. I obtained a sectional view of the hull by cutting through a cracked hull. The hull thickness on either side of the keel trunk is only half that of other areas of the hull and deck. To strengthen the hull near the keel trunk, I used ABS to print it and then glued it to the inside hull with 5200 marine adhesive. This modification will render my boat non-compliant with the strict one-design requirements of this class. Therefore, do not race this in the DF95 World Cup! The project files were created using Solidworks 2018. UPDATE September 15, 2019 I've added a gusset on each side to provide additional support. This gusset sits on top of the hull reinforcement and extends over to the keel box, adding extra bracing. The gusset is glued to the keel box and reinforcement after the reinforcement has been set in place. With just the reinforcement, the hull still flexes along the keel box where the hull is particularly thin.
