Dragon's Egg Candle Holder
thingiverse
This model is 145x145x146 mm, or about 6" in a flattened egg shape. It has a central hole 45mm at the top (~1.75") that tapers slightly as it goes down to about 40mm (1.5"). The hole is 50mm deep (~2"). The ridges on the outside don't need supports and the claws on top extend about 25mm (1") above the opening. Inside the recepticle, there is a small spike that will help the candle stay in place (if it doesn't just break off). I was kinda bored for an hour and decided to mess around making something that would look neat on my desk. I started playing around with some extrusions and patterns on a flat ball until this ended up on my screen. I'll try it as a candle holder, although I might put a tin cup into it to help with the heat. Hopefully the ABS will be more resistant to the heat of the candle and hold up better. If anyone does print it, I'd love to see what you do with it. Updates hopefully soon! Update: I still can't print ABS. Got about half-way and the egg had layer separation set in. 1/4 gaps between several layers. Aside from my own ineptitude, the model itself is great. The scales started coming in fine and the edges were properly rounded from the model.
