A detailed figurine of a fantasy dragon was crafted in black plastic, but a scanning spray was not required due to the matte finish. The figurine offered an abundance of geometry, making it simple to track and align. However, the thin, long pikes on the wings and head presented a challenge for 3D scanning. To overcome this obstacle, the Artec Spider 3D scanner was positioned at a specific angle relative to each spike, ensuring that additional reference surfaces were captured within its field of view. The scanning process took approximately 15 minutes, while processing the data required a further 40 minutes.
