Dragon Hotend Smart Effector Adapter (and fan duct)
thingiverse
An adapter for using the Phaetus Dragon Hotend with a Duet3D Smart Effector. Also included is a customized hot end fan duct for a 30x10 fan. For the adapter, you'll need 2 (or 4) M2.5x6 hex screws that screw into the threaded holes on the top of the hotend's heat sink. There's a little ledge at the bottom of the adapter's M12 threads that should prevent the top of the M2.5 screws from touching the Smart Effector. After attaching the adapter to the hotend, simply put the M12 threads of the adapter through the 12mm hole in the smart effector, and attach the printed nut. I'd suggest scaling the nut to 100.1% if printing at the original size doesn't work. The nut should be a tight fit (to prevent it loosening) but not impossible to thread on the adapter. While this can be printed in PLA, consider printing in a plastic that has better interlayer adhesion (such as PETG or nylon.) Otherwise, the adapter can break when you tighten the nut. I'd suggest printing the adapter and nut with a layer height of 0.1mm to preserve the threads. I've also included a customized fan duct that can be used with a 30x10 fan. This is similar to the standard E3D V6 hotend fan duct, but extends a bit farther around the hotend (which might be needed for mounting on the Dragon due to it's shape.) As well, it doesn't wrap the full height of the dragon. This is to allow more easily gripping the dragon heatsink with your hands (or a tool) while tightening or loosening a nozzle. Due to the possibility of the duct being very close to the heater block of the hotend, this should be printed with a plastic that won't deform at higher heats (such as ABS or PC.) (I printed mine with PETG at a 0.2mm layer height.) This is completely UNSUPPORTED. You should use this at your own risk. If the model doesn't quite work out for you, please feel free to download the .step file(s) and modify it for your own needs/desires.
