Dragon Door Knocker - Meshmixer support
thingiverse
I wanted to print this nice model, but it was too big for my uDelta printer. I had to reduce the size of the model to 40 percent of its original size right within Repetier Host itself. As a result, some of the support in the file was not sliced properly at first, causing some of the support structures to appear floating in mid-air. After that, I tried printing the file without the support and adding support structures using Repetier, but this ended up covering most of the model with support structures, which made it a no-go. So I decided to import the file into Meshmixer. I reduced the size of the model to 40 percent and then added Meshmixer's support structures to it. After saving the updated .stl file, I sliced it using Repetier. The final result is very nice and turned out fine in the end. With some different speed settings, it would have printed even nicer, but after a little touch-up with paint, the print should look perfect. The .stl file with Meshmixer supports was over 300 megabytes in size, making me unable to upload it to thingiverse. So I slightly reduced the level of detail in the model, which was not even noticeable, and managed to reduce the file size down to just over 100 megabytes. Changes made to the original model include: Model size reduced by 40 percent Added support structures using Meshmixer Reduced triangles by 18 percent P.S. Sorry for the choice of color - I ran out of black filament just before printing this model. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer Model: uDelta Rafts: No Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.2mm Infill Percentage: 20% Notes: Adding supports during slicing is not necessary, since there are already support structures in the file. For the best results, I should print with a resolution of 0.1mm, an infill percentage of 30%, and at a low speed.
