Downspout Leaf Filter (Diverter) for Rain Barrel

REVISED: Added a gutter connector (and nut) to facilitate redirecting the rain barrel overflow back into the gutter below the diverter. When the rain barrel is full, then the overflow follows the course of the original downspout instead of just soaking the ground below the rain barrel. REVISED: This update makes two changes 1) Bottom slot into which the outflow of the diverter connects to the downspout has been enlarged and deepened to make insertion easier. 2) A regular and mirrored version are now available. Note that the simple mirror that I did will make the screw turn the opposite direction... Not a big deal, but may make you crazy at some point. When I get a second, I'll fix that. REVISED: The Improved diverter body ensures that water will not leak between the bottom of the diverter and the lower portion of the downspout. --------------------------------------------------- This is a two-stage leaf and grit filter designed so that rain water falling through a downspout might fill a rain barrel with clean water. The print consists of four pieces: 1 Main diverter body - includes the coarse filtering for leaves. 2 Screen cartridge - holds a fine screen material used to filter out grit 3 Screen retainer - holds the screen material in place on the cartridge 4 A retaining screw - holds the screen cartridge in the main body. The main diverter body will print best if several elements of the design are printed with supports (see picture from my slicer for recommendations - green areas). In addition to the printed parts, you'll want some screws to fasten the main body to the wall of your home, a piece of flexible tubing with internal diameter of 3/4" to guide the clean water into your rain barrel, and some screen material (I used window screen) to filter out the grit in the cartridge. The overall design is set up for the 4.25 x 3" downspouts, but of course it could me modified for other sizes.
