
Down Spout Diverter

This project was designed using FreeCAD, with the source files included for you. As a disclaimer, my naming conventions within the source may not be perfect, as I'm not a CAD expert. Some minor sanding might be required to ensure the best fit. Additionally, I am currently testing the durability of printed plastic under weather conditions. To assemble, first remove support material from the housing print, paying special attention to the hinge pin hole. Clean up the hinge pin itself and test its movement in the housing. Next, remove the hinge pin and test the fit of the diverter, ensuring the bottom tab fits snugly into the slot on the hinge pin. Although gluing might be necessary, do so after testing all fits and with the hinge pin securely in place. Fit the hinge pin lever onto the end of the hinge pin, making sure it fits snugly. Insert the hinge pin into the housing and secure the diverter in its slot. Test the movement of the diverter, which should move freely and rest at both ends. Consider adding a rubber flapper, cut from an old inner tube, to seal the gap at the top of the diverter. Trim any excess housing material that may obstruct proper diverter movement. Finally, glue the diverter to the hinge pin, attach the hinge pin lever, and your assembly is complete. You may need to modify the downspout for a secure fit and drill holes for screws to attach the diverter to the downspout. Installation typically takes less than an hour. Before assembling this diverter, I had to fix my initial haphazard adjustments on the downspout. Now, enjoy your new rain diversion system!
