Dowel Jig

Dowel Jig

A buddy asked if I could print JewishBacon's dowel jig, so I did it. Printed it as suggested, but thought that it didn't have to happen like that, so I sketched something up in Fusion 360 which I think will work a little better. If you don't know what a dowel jig is, it's a drill guide that helps you drill into two pieces of wood so you can use a dowel to join them. It gives a cleaner appearance than using screws. This works like the original, but uses less material where it isn't needed, and can be printed standing up. The original suggested printing on its side to ensure strength, but I don't think it needs that much strength. I also created a larger window with a point that helps line up the mark on the wood. The window in the original was pretty small. I've only uploaded the 3/4" version - although I should note that nominal 3/4" stock is usually not an actual 3/4". If other sizes are desired, I've included the Fusion 360 source file; you can just change the extrude distance of Extrude1 for different size stock, and the hole will remain centered. Also, different drill bits can be used by changing the diameter of Hole1.
