Dowel Jig

Dowel Jig

A friend asked me to print JewishBacon's dowel jig, so I obliged. Printed it as instructed, but thought that approach was unnecessary, so I sketched an alternative in Fusion 360 which I believe will function better. (I have a hard time leaving things alone!) If you're not familiar with dowel jigs, they are drill guides used to accurately drill into two pieces of wood and join them using a dowel for a cleaner appearance than screws. This design works similarly to the original but uses less material where it's not needed, and can be printed upright. The source suggested printing on its side for added strength, but I doubt that level of strength is required. I also created a larger window with a point to help line up the mark on the wood. The original window was relatively small. I've only uploaded the 3/4" version - note that nominal 3/4" stock usually isn't actually 3/4". If other sizes are desired, I've included the Fusion 360 source file, allowing you to easily modify the extrude distance of Extrude1 for different size stock. You can also change the diameter of Hole1 for various drill bits.
